SEPTEMBER 30, 2026 The Committee That Won't Say Its Own Name A policy paper published today calls index providers "Wall Street's invisible committee." I went and found the actual committees — six unnamed people at MSCI who can decide whether Bitcoin counts as an operating asset, a board at FTSE Russell that is contractually forbidden from naming its own members, and the one index manager anyone actually knows by name, only because the SEC caught him trading on what he knew. Feedback on the live MSCI proposal closes today. The decision lands October 16. SEPTEMBER 19, 2026 The Chairman Retires, the Advice Doesn't Warren Buffett, 96, stepped down Friday as chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, a title he'd held since 1970, handing it to his son Howard while Greg Abel keeps running the company day to day. The job change is mostly a formality eight months after Buffett already gave up the CEO seat. The advice he leaves behind isn't a formality, and I think it deserves a harder look than it usually gets — buy the S&P 500, he's told ordinary investors for decades, and a chunk of that instruction is really an instruction to buy about ten companies.
